SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has contributed significantly in the nation’s infrastructure development through the production and supply of Electric Resistant Welded (ERW) Pipes and Spiral Welded (SWPP Pipes).

These high-quality pipes have been instrumental in numerous state and national projects, underpinning the growth and modernization of India’s infrastructure.

In the last fiscal alone, RSP’s contribution has been monumental. Over 41,000 no of ERW pipes, weighing more than 37000 tonnes, have been utilized across various National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) sites. These sites include Talcher and Darlipali in Odisha, Ramagudam in Andhra Pradesh, Farakka in West Bengal, Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh, Kahalgaon in Jharkhand and Barh in Bihar.

Additionally, these pipes have supported power generation projects in states such as Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Odisha. Reputed companies like Messrs L&T, Messrs Megha Project, Messrs Bhushan Tubes, Messrs KRAM Infra, and KMC have used these pipes in projects across Odisha, Karnataka, Meghalaya, and West Bengal. Furthermore, the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, and Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited have also benefited from RSP’s pipes.

In 2023-24 RSP’s 18,500 Spiral Welded Pipes weighing 27000 tonnes have made significant strides in national water and urban development initiatives. They have been integral to the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), spearheaded by the Government of India. These pipes have ensured the provision of safe drinking water through tap water supply and borewells in Odisha’s Khurda, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, Sonpur, and Cuttack. Additionally, they have been crucial in irrigation projects in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.

One of the notable applications of RSP’s pipes is in the Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant in Haryana, showcasing their versatility and reliability. NTPC, a major customer, utilized 27 kilometers of Single Layer Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coated Pipes with a 762 mm outer diameter in Talcher for the underground transportation of fly ash to fill up open cast mining holes of the Mahanadi Coal Field. Similarly, 2 kilometers of 28-inch pipes were used in Simhadri, Andhra Pradesh, demonstrating their utility in environmental management and resource optimization.

Recently RSP has sent three-layer polyethylene-coated pipes of 812-inch outer diameter for the Bokaro Steel Plant as part of supporting sister units and impacting  nation’s development on a vast scale.

Through these extensive contributions, Rourkela Steel Plant has been playing a pivotal player in nation-building, enhancing the infrastructure framework and supporting sustainable development across India.
