The Corporate Social Responsibility of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant marches ahead with Research and Development initiative on ‘Waste to Wealth’ and other CSR  focus areas of health, farming and environment in collaboration with National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. . 

Recently it has extended its support in promoting Governtment’s flagship programme like Start Up Odisha, Start-Up India aiming to strengthen the Indian Economy and generate employment using wastes and local resources.

Biotez Agrinovation Pvt. Ltd. is one such starup supported by RSP and recognised by Start-up Odisha and Start-up India. Started by Dr. Shitarashmi Sahu and Retired professor Meenakumari Maharana, the Directors of the Start-up with a team comprising Biotechnologists, Engineers and Farmers have successfully utilised LD Slag, the industrial waste of Steel Industry  to develop organic manures for paddy, vegetables, flowers and fruiting trees and indoor plants.

The team with their innovative approach made efforts to utilize the waste for the production of value-added products such as plant nutrition Bio-fertilizer, organic manure and bio-enzyme through proprietary formulation. They aim to produce / grow primary and secondary (Macro and Micro) plant nutrition and soil conditioner in an environmentally sustainable way.

It has also received the Grant-in-Aid support from Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana-Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied Sector Rejuvenation (RKVY-RAFTAAR), an initiative of Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India (2021).
