SAIL stamp on Purvanchal superhighway

State-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied 48,200 Tonnes of steel for the Purvanchal Expressway which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

The total quantity of steel supplied by SAIL for this massive project comprises of TMT Bars, Structurals and Plates. The 341 km long Purvanchal Expressway will substantially improve the road connectivity and will join several districts of Uttar Pradesh.

SAIL has always catered to the country’s domestic steel requirement and played a crucial role in the growth and development of the country.  In the past, SAIL steel has been extensively used in the construction of various infrastructure projects including Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways, Atal Tunnel, Bogibeel and Dhola Sadiya bridges etc along with several other notable projects of national importance. SAIL is continuously enhancing its production with steady increase in the percentage of value-added products in its product basket.

Purvanchal Expressway is a 340.8 km long, 6-lane wide (expandable to 8) access-controlled expressway in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The expressway connects Chand Saray village near Gosainganj in Lucknow district with Haydaria village on NH-31 in Ghazipur district. It is developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).

The Purvanchal Expressway has a 3.2 km long airstrip at Akhalkiri Karwat village near Kurebhar in Sultanpur district for emergency landing of aircrafts. The construction work was started by the UPEIDA on October 10, 2018 and the project was commissioned on November 16, 2021.
