South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), an arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), would dole out assistance for setting up a dedicated COVID ward in Bilaspur-based Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS).
The institute is on a major expansion plan of medical infrastructure with the assistance of SECL. Following the flow of COVID patients in the first and second phases, the CIMS administration had decided to set-up a 200-bedded dedicated COVID ward.
The SECL would help CIMS to expedite the plan by helping out from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) head. The isolation and surgical wards of the institute would be renovated and expanded for converting it into COVID ward.
Sources in the SECL said that an amount of Rs 2.89 crore would be provided for procuring medical equipment while Rs 3.27 crore would be allotted for civil works. In all, SECL would provide Rs 6.16 crore for the project, sources said, adding that 20 per cent of the amount had been disbursed to the CIMS and district administration.
The company had been assisting the district and hospital administration in its fight against the contagious disease. Earlier, it provided a sum of Rs 25 lakh to the district administration for procuring oxygen cylinders, testing kits and other medical equipment.
SECL provided Rs 34 lakh for procuring RTPCR test machine and deep freezers for preserving samples besides Rs 1.50 crore building electric crematorium at Sarkanda. The 200 beds at district COVID hospital and 120 channels for the oxygen supply line also had the company’s contribution.
