South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) celebrated the 77th Independence Day on Tuesday with patriotic zeal and passion.
Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Dr Prem Sagar Mishra unfurled the National Flag as chief guest of the program and took the salute of an impressive parade at Vasant Vihar Sports Ground, SECL, Bilaspur, where the main function was organised. Dr Mishra inspected the parade led by Parade Commander V. Dakshinamurthy and D P Diwakar. The Security Chief of SECL, Ashok Kumar accompanied the chief guest.
The parade contingent included two platoons of SECL Security Department led by Mehmood Khan and Chamru Chauhan, NCC Junior Wing Boys and Girls platoons led by K K Venkatesh Achari Class 10th and Kumari Vaishnavi Tiwari Class 11th while DAV School Girls and Boys Platoons were led by Kumari Oshin Meshram Class 12th and Bharat Shankar Acharya Class 12th. There was also a band platoon in the parade.
Dr Mishra greeted the people on Independence Day and said that the great festival of independence had been a symbol of the determination and faith of Indians, and the courage running through the veins of Indians. He added that to establish the energetic and vibrant nation, their coal industry is continuously working. He said that in the first quarter of this financial year, SECL has registered an increase of more than 10 million tonnes in coal production as compared to last year, which is a record.
“Last year, our growth in OBR was around 36 per cent for the full year, which has increased to 46 per cent in the first quarter of this year itself. Last year, the amount of coal supplied to the power sector was unprecedented in the history of SECL, but this year we are on the way to set a new record in this too, which is reflected in the growth achieved by about 3.5 percent in the first quarter of this year. This year we have not only achieved the fastest ever production and dispatch of 50 million tonnes of coal but also achieved 100 million cubic meters OBR in a record period,” Dr Mishra said.
The SECL CMD said the target was to double the production of underground mines in the coming four to five years, for which the company had been promoting modern techniques in underground mines. SECL is working towards employing 44 sets of new CM machines in addition to the 12 sets of Continuous Miner machines currently in operation. Four new man riding systems are being installed in the company’s Katkona, Khairha, Gayatri mines for the convenience of its workers and to increase the efficiency, while 8 others are under implementation. In the process of technology absorption, we have also adopted digitization and automation. All the 7 modules of SAP are working successfully in the company which has made the availability of data easier and efficiency has also increased.
He said that mother, birthplace and work have a paramount place in everyone’s life. It is said that ‘Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi’ and ‘Sarve Karmavasha Vayam’ means the place of mother and motherland is above heaven and we are subject to all our actions. On this auspicious festival of independence, let’s take a pledge that we all will contribute our best in the development of SECL and the nation with one goal, one vision, one mind, one speed and with our good deeds.
Earlier, in the presence of Haridwar Singh (AITUC) of the SECL Steering Committee, various heads of departments, representatives of labour unions, officer-employees, Director (Personnel) Debasis Acharyya, hoisted the flag, paid tribute to martyrs and Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and took the salute of the parade organized by a contingent of security guards, which was led by Gajraj Singh Chandel. National Anthem and Coal India Corporate Song were played on the occasion. Remembering the brave martyrs and laborers, he said that the achievements of SECL are the result of the hard work and dedication of our skilled workers. He called upon to work in the interest of the company and the country. And SECL’s progress is not linear, but along with their development, remote areas are also developing.
Director Technical (Operations) S.K. Pal, Director (Finance) G. Srinivasan, Director Technical (Planning/Projects) S.N. Kapri, Director (Personnel) Debasis Acharyya, Chief Vigilance Officer Jayant Kumar Khamari, Haridwar Singh (AITUC) from SECL Steering Committee, Shraddha Mahila Mandal President Mrs. Poonam Mishra, Vice President Mrs. Ritanjali Pal, Mrs. Raji Srinivasan, Mrs. Sangeeta Kapri, Mrs. Sujata Khamari, heads of various departments, representatives of trade unions, officers-employees and school children were present at the program held in vasant vihar ground.
The CMD along with Functional directors and office bearers of Shraddha Mahila Mandal collectively gave a message of peace by releasing pigeons and balloons in the sky. In the ceremony, oath was taken under Meri Mati Mera Desh program and Shilaphalakam (monument) was also inaugurated by Dr Mishra at Ravindra Bhavan, SECL Vasant Vihar, under Veero Ke Vandan programme.
The retired defence officials namely Air Vice Marshal V M Tiwari, Col. Dr. PL Kesharwani, Wing Cdr. J K Mitra, Cdr. Dr Madan Singh Hura, and Col. J J Lal were honored on the occasion. Various patriotic songs and dances performances were presented by the children of DAV Public School, Loyla School, Holy Nursery School and Krishna Public School. On this occasion, the best drill team and the best dressed participants were awarded by the chief guest.
The program was anchored by Sheikh Zakir Hussain, Chief Manager (Environment), Security Inspector M P Jangde and Mrs. Anu Chakraborty.
