Raipur, February 2
Soon after taking over as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Prem Sagar Mishra, has marched to the mines to accelerate the production of dry fuel.
The largest coal producing entity of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), SECL has been expected to produce 150 Million Tonne (MT) of coal production in the current financial year that it achieved last year. But the company recently joined the 100 MT production club on January 18; posing the miner to face a daunting task of achieving the target with just two months to perform.
Mishra, who was transferred from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), assumed the charge of SECL CMD on Tuesday at the Bilaspur headquarters and soon after left for the mines located in Korba districts. He held meetings with the senior officials and rushed to the fields on Wednesday morning to assess the ground realities related to the coal production.
The focus has been the Kusmunda mine that has a lion’s share in SECL’s output. Mishra met the senior officials in the field and discussed the production and dispatch of dry fuel. The proposed Kusmunda Open Cast Expansion Project has a normative production capacity of 50 million tonne per annum with Peak annual production capacity of 62.50 million tonne.
The SECL CMD later visited Dipka and Gevra coal mines that have been producing 1 lakh and 1.5 lakh tonne of coal respectively. He later chaired a high level meeting to explore the possibilities of extracting maximum coal to meet the target.
