The 59th company level bipartite mine safety committee meeting concluded in the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), the Chhattisgarh-based arm of Coal India Limited (CIL).  

The officials presented the safety report and emphasized on new technology in mines. The SECL management informed that the arrangement of the man riding system is being promoted to facilitate the movement of fellow workers in underground mines. Four new man riding systems are being installed in SECL’s Katkona, Khairaha, Gayatri mines while four others have been tendered and additional 4 are at the stage of approval. In the man riding system, instead of walking, the workmen reach near the face of the mine by mechanized transport system. The process helps increase productivity.

The management informed that the company has started the process of recruitment on the posts of 350 Mining Sirdar, which will be completed soon. Last year, appointment letters were issued to 127 electrical supervisors. The recruitment process for 55 posts of Deputy Surveyor has been completed.

Discussing the safety measures, they said reflectors had been fixed on the vehicles plying in the night shift in the opencast mines, whereas during the day a red colored patrol flag was being fixed on the light motor vehicles. In mega projects like Gevra, Dipka, separate lanes have been made for the operation of light vehicles inside the mines so that heavy machines can move freely.

In the meeting, the members of the Security Committee, while discussing the Mission Sudesh started by CMD Dr. Prem Sagar Mishra, termed it very useful. They congratulated the SECL team for completing 50 million tonnes of offtake and production and 100 million cubic meters of OBR at the fastest rate recently.

The meeting started with the lighting of the safety lamp and observing two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the Shramveers who died during coal production in the intervening period of the last and current meetings. The Coal India Corporate song was played in the meeting, after which the safety oath was taken.

The meeting held at the SECL headquarters in Bilaspur was attended by Director Technical (Operations) S K Pal, Director Technical (Planning/Projects), S N Kapri, General Manager (Mines Safety/Rescue) B P Singh, Member of Security Committee, Anand Mishra (HMS), B. Dharma Rao (ATC), Sanjay Singh (BMS), Kamlesh Sharma (SEKMC), Indradev Chauhan (CITU), P. Chandrakant (CMOAI) besides heads of different departments.
