South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) had provided financial assistance to two districts in Chhattisgarh for combating COVID-19.
The largest coal producing arm of the state-run Coal India Limited (CIL) had sanctioned a sum of Rs 25 lakh each for the Bilaspur and Korba districts. The fiscal assistance comes from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) head of the company.
While the authorities in Bilaspur were in process of handing over the cheque, the officials of Gevra project in Korba deposited the cheque with the local administration. “On the direction of Korba district administration, SECL Gevra has been continuously sanitizing and fogging 10 villages,” S K Mohanty, General Manager of Gevra Project, said.
The company had also provided an ambulance to the district administration to be stationed at Katghora, he added.
The SECL spokesperson said that the Bilaspur district administration would be procuring oxygen cylinders and other medical equipment from the assistance provided by the company to deal with the COVID-19 crises.
Earlier, SECL had sanctioned a sum of Rs 32.90 lakh for procuring required equipment that would enhance RT-PCR tests. Presently, 700-800 samples are being tested daily in the molecular virology lab of CIMS.
With the contribution of the company that was sought by the Dean of CIMS, a RT-PCR system comprising computer, UPS and deep freezers would be procured. The freezers would facilitate collecting more samples and preserving it safely.
