South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), an arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), promoted 1778 non-executive cadre employees on Wednesday.
Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECL Dr P S Mishra, who took over the mini ratna ratna company a few months ago, had promised to promote the employees of non-executive cadre while delivering his Independence Day speech at company headquarters on August 15. The coal company translated the announcement into action just within a fortnight.
“We are not only productivity driven, we ensure best opportunities and amenities for our employees,” Dr Mishra said. Congratulating the promoted employees, the SECL CMD said that the development showed the commitment of management towards employee welfare.
The employees elevated are working in various operational areas of the company that are spread in the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The major chunk of promoted employees are from Korba Coalfields where SECL manages mega projects including Dipka, Gevra and Kusmunda. The Company has 13 operational areas wherein around 65 mines have been grouped in different coalfields.
The SECL spokesperson said promotion was based on sanctioned manpower budget 2022-23, and significantly, all eligible employees had been promoted in the first half of the year itself. The process of preparation of the manpower budget was very elaborative in which local colliery management, trade union representatives etc. were also invited to provide inputs.
The coal company has around 43,000 employees in its working roll. In some of the mines, dealing executives themselves went to the homes of promoted employees along with promotion orders and sweets, a gesture which has been appreciated by many on the company’s Social Media post. At the company’s excavation workshop in Korba, almost all the promoted employees are females who work on machine shops, rolling shops etc.
The promoted employees are from different staff cadres like, data entry operator, clerk, technical inspector, matron, assistant foreman, pharmacist, overseer, radiographers, engineering assistants and others.
SECL aims to produce 182 MT of Coal in FY 2022-23 and has registered a growth of around 20 percent on YoY basis, this fiscal.
