South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) surpassed the target of overburden removal (OBR) set for the first three quarters of the current financial year 2024-25 ended December 31, 2024.
A statement issued by the Chhattisgarh-based arm of the state-run Coal India Limited (CIL) said the company’s OBR had crossed 250 million cubic meters (MCuM) in the financial year 2024-25. Between April 2024 and December 2024, 250.4 MCuM of overburden has been removed by the company, it said.
SECL’s annual action plan (AAP) target of OBR for the period (April-December) was 241 MCuM; surpassing which the company has removed an additional 9 MCuM that is 4 per cent more than the target.
Talking about the same period of last year (April 2023 to December 2023), the company had achieved 236.6 OBR and thus SECL has achieved a growth of about 6 per cent in the current financial year, the company said.
The use of ripper technology is being promoted for removing OB in SECL. With the help of green technology, it has become possible to remove OB without drilling-blasting, thereby ensuring safe and environment-friendly coal mining.
