SECL, one of the leading coal companies in the country, has been awarded the Corporate Governance Award under the Business Excellence Awards 2023 by ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), a prestigious body of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, for outstanding work in the field of corporate governance.
The award was presented by Arun Kumar Shukla, CMD, Hindustan Copper Limited to G. Srinivasan, Director (Finance), representing SECL at the Indian Mining and Minerals Conclave 2023 organized by ASSOCHAM in Kolkata on June 30, 2023.
It may be noted that the company has ensured compliance with various Corporate Governance rules and provisions related to the Companies Act 2013, SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India), guidelines on corporate governance issued by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), etc. such as restructuring of the SECL Board, periodic board meetings, regular annual general meetings and ensuring the presence of the audit committee chairman in meetings. The prestigious award has been received for compliance with whistleblower mechanism, information regarding committees on company website, etc.
Under the leadership of CMD Dr. Prem Sagar Mishra, the company is emphasizing on making corporate governance a part of the work culture and the CMD has urged to celebrate FY 2023-24 as the ‘Year of Culture of Compliance’. The Company is also preparing and implementing a Structured Policy Framework with specific responsibilities assigned and timeline fixed, for compliance of directives/advise/suggestion of various authorities and institutions viz., SECL Board/Committees, CIL Board/Committees, MoC, C&AG, SEBI, MCA, DGMS, Central & State Govt. etc., as well as decision/ directives given at CMDs co-ordination meeting, GMs co-ordination meeting etc. from time to time.
Chief Manager (Environment) Dr Anurag Tiwari and Chief Manager (Mining) Satyaranjan Tripathi were present as part of the company delegation at the award ceremony in Kolkata.
