SECL ends FY22-23 with all-time high in production, dispatch and OBR

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has performed brilliantly in the financial year 2022-23.
The company produced 167 million tonnes of coal, which is the highest production in any single year since inception. SECL has registered a growth of 24.5 million tonnes (MT) on an annual basis, which is the highest growth in any single year. In the last financial year, SECL dispatched 160.05 MT of coal to the consumers, of which 139.6 MT of coal was sent to the power plants of the country, this is the highest dispatch given by the company to the power sector in any one year.
In Over Burden Removal (OBR), the company delivered historic results and removed 264.10 million cubic meters of OBR with a growth of over 35 percent. It may be noted that OBR is a pre-coal extraction process, and this will help SECL to achieve higher production target in the coming times.
Korba coalfields including Raigad contributed 148.43 MT to SECL’s production of 167 MT, which was 19 percent more than last year. The total production from the mines of Central India Coalfield stood at 18.57 MT with an annual growth of 5 per cent. Overall, total 8 operational areas of SECL registered more coal production than last year.
SECL has also recorded the highest ever production through underground mines in India. The company’s UG production stood at 11.64 MT, registering a positive growth after many years. It may be
noted that under UG Vision, the company has encouraged deployment of modern technology like Continuous Miner in underground mines which is yielding positive results. The Khairha underground mine under Sohagpur area of SECL produced 8.77 lakh tonnes of coal and became the highest coal producing mine in the country through Continuous Miner technology.
SECL’s Gevra project bagged the honour of becoming the only mine in the country to produce and dispatch 50 million tonnes of coal. The total production of Gevra stood at 52.5 MT. The Kusmunda
Mega Project registered a record 49 per cent growth over the previous year and produced more than 43 million tonnes of coal. The annual production of the company’s third mega project Dipka was 32.15 million tonnes.
For Project Affected Persons (PAP) SECL sanctioned employment to a total of 704 beneficiaries this year in cases of land acquisition, which is the highest in the last decade. The company also approved more than 750 jobs to dependents of SECL employees.
In the last financial year, SECL spent about Rs 45 crore for various social works under CSR, in which Rs 27 crore was spent in the health sector and Rs 11 crore in the education sector. Under sustainable development, proper use of water released from mines was encouraged. In the year 2022-23, about 258.07 lakh kilo litres of mine water was made available by SECL for irrigation and about 28.02 lakh kilo litres of mine water for domestic use. This year the company planted a record more than 8 lakh saplings in an area of more than 365 hectares.
For the first time in the year 2022-23, SECL issued LOA to operate 3 mines on MDO mode. The company also obtained Environmental approval for increasing the production capacity in 6 projects of the company,
which has expanded the production capacity by more than 9 MT per annum. The company started the Rampur-Batura project, while the closed projects like Amadand, Amgaon, Rajnagar OC were restarted.
