South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), the largest producing subsidiary of Coal behemoth Coal India Limited (CIL) has surpassed the 100 Million Tonne (MT) coal production mark.
The coal production of SECL stood at 100.19 MT on Tuesday.
India, having 5th largest Coal deposits, is the second largest coal producer in the world that contributes to almost 10 per cent of global production. The Maharatna PSU CIL runs more than 350 Mines across eight States in the country catering resources for 2/3rd primary energy production of the nation.
During the FY 2021-22, CIL aims to produce 670 MT of raw coal and relies heavily on contribution from this flagship Mini-Ratna company. SECL is the only Subsidiary of CIL having produced 150 MT plus Coal in the last three years. During the current fiscal, SECL has dispatched 121.56 MT Coal registering a growth of 14 per cent over the last year. The production figures have also witnessed growth over the previous year.
SECL is supplying coal to power utilities on priority and daily Coal Rake dispatches are touching the half century mark in recent days. Just before the disruption by unseasonal rains in mid-January, the Company had touched 5 lakh per day production figure, first time in the current year.
SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) SECL A P Panda lauded the efforts of the team on achieving this significant milestone. He congratulated the workers, stakeholders, state governments, union/associations and SECL family members for their endeavor and support.
SECL aims to produce 172 MT coal in the current financial year.
