SECL surpasses last year’s coal production

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), an arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), has surpassed last financial year’s coal production of 142 million tonnes.

SECL has produced 143 million tonnes of coal so far this year and registered a growth of 19 per cent over the corresponding period of last year. SECL’s mega projects have contributed significantly to this achievement, achieving a significant increase in coal production this year as compared to last year.

Gevra Mega Project has registered a growth of 32 per cent in this financial year so far, producing about 45 million tonnes while the Kusmunda region has produced about 35 million tonnes so far in this financial year with a growth of 52 per cent. If we talk about the entire Korba coalfield, coal production has seen a growth of about 21 per cent in this financial year with a production of about 126 million tonnes.

It is noteworthy that SECL has also performed well in OBR (Overburden Removal). About 234 million cubic meters of OBR has been done so far in this financial year which is 35 per cent higher than the previous year. With this, SECL has registered the highest growth in OBR since its inception.

At the same time, the company has also seen an increase in coal dispatch as compared to the previous financial year. About 144 million tonnes of coal has been dispatched so far in this financial year which is 2.7 per cent higher than the same period last year. Keeping in mind the needs of various power plants in the country, the company has dispatched about 126 million tonnes of coal to the power sector in this financial year, which is 11 million tonnes more than the previous financial year.

On this occasion, SECL CMD Dr. Prem Sagar Mishra congratulated the SECL personnel and motivated them to set new records in coal production in the remaining financial year.
