South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), the Chhattisgarh-based entity of Coal India Limited (CIL), has reported a surge in production for the second month in a row.
In October, the Bilaspur-headquartered company produced 11.8 million tonnes (MT) of coal compared to 10.3 MT of the previous year’s corresponding period, recording a surge of 14.2 per cent. The double-digit growth in percentage was reported for the second consecutive month in October.
SECL produced 9.2 MT in September compared to 8.0 MT recorded during the same month of the previous year, an increase of 14.3 per cent. In July, the production of SECL came down by 8.4 per cent. The company covered the deficit and paralleled the output in August. The production was up marginally by 0.2 per cent.
The cumulative production of the company in the first seven months of the financial year 2022-23 also went up by 15 per cent. SECL produced 75.2 MT of coal during the period April to October as against 65.4 MT produced during the corresponding period of last year.
SECL has set a target to produce 182 MT of dry fuel in the current financial year 2022-23 (FY23).
The company recorded 142.51 MT production in the financial year 2021-22 amidst battling serious challenges inflicted by unpredictable monsoon and the second wave of COVID. The company dispatched 155.71 MT of coal to the consumers during the period that was the second largest dispatch data since the company’s inception.
