Record of fastest ever dispatch of 50 million tonnes

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has achieved 50 million tonnes of coal dispatch so far in the financial year 2023-24 (FY24).

This is the fastest ever dispatch of 50 MT since the inception of the company, the SECL spokesperson said. Last year the company had dispatched around 44 million tonnes of coal in during the corresponding period thus registering a growth of 13 per cent in this financial year.

Of the above, 40 million tonnes of coal has been dispatched to the power sector. Record amount of coal was supplied to the power plants during the summer season, due to which adequate availability of coal has been ensured in the power plants.

The company’s mega projects Gevra, Dipka, and Kusmunda, located in Korba district, have contributed
significantly to the total 50 million tonnes of coal dispatch. SECL Dipka Area contributed 9.85 MT, Gevra 15.15 MT, and Kusmunda field 11.67 MT. Thus, the share of all the three mega projects in the total dispatch has been more than 73 per cent.

It may be noted that the company has recorded the highest ever coal production of 167 million tonnes in the last financial year 22-23. The company has got a target of 200 million tonnes of coal production for this year.
