South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Chhattisgarh-based arm of Coal India Limited (CIL), had reported a 21 per cent growth in the production of dry fuel.
The coal production of SECL was pegged at 18.37 million tonnes (MT), the highest output recorded in any February month since the company’s inception. During the same period in the previous year, SECL had produced 15.2 MT coal.
February was the second month in succession when SECL topped the list of coal production among the CIL entities. In January also, SECL was the highest coal producing arm of CIL with 19.4 MT output that was up by 31 per cent compared to previous year.
A statement issued by the company said among the mega projects of the company, Gevra contributed 5.29 MT, Dipka 4.18 MT and Kusmunda 5.78 MT. Out of the total production reported in February, about 17 MT was from opencast and 01 MT from underground mines.
Along with production, progress has also been registered in the dispatch of coal to power and other industrial establishments, the company said. It had dispatched a record 13.99 MT of coal in the month of February 2023, which is almost half a MT more than in the month of February last year.
SECL is heading for historic results in OverBurden Removal (OBR) in this financial year. The company has surpassed the highest ever OBR figures last month itself and has been successful in achieving the highest ever OB removal in the month of February 2023 with 28.53 million cubic meter OBR.
It may be noted that on the last day of February, SECL had removed 11.55 lakh cubic meter OBR, which is the highest by the company in any single day.
