Security forces have discovered bodies of 10 Left-wing insurgents after a fierce gun battle in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Tuesday.
A team comprising jawans from the Bijapur District Reserve Guard (DRG), CRPF, its elite wing CoBRA, Special Task Force (STF) of Chhattisgarh police on Tuesday morning launched anti-Maoist operation in the Korcholi-Lendra forests under Gangalur police station limits. The rebels laid an ambush and attacked the party.
The security personnel immediately took the position and gave a befitting reply. The rebels later retreated. The security personnel launched a search operation in the area and discovered the bodies of 10 Maoists.
Bastar Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said of the killed Maoists, nine were male and one female. Besides one LMG weapon, one .303 bore rifle, with huge quantities of BGL shells and launchers and other arms ammunition recovered from the spot, he added.
All the officials and jawans in the operation are safe. The senior officials are camping in the area, supervising the search operation.
Today’s incident was the second major crackdown against the Maoists within a week in Bijapur. On Wednesday last, six Maoists including a deputy commander of the outlawed wing were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Basaguda.
