In yet another breakthrough in the on-going offensive against the Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) in Chhattisgarh, security forces gunned down at least 30 rebels of the banned CPI (Maoists) in two separate encounters in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on Thursday.
The encounters took place in the region’s Bijapur and Kanker districts on Thursday in which jawans of Border Security Force (BSF), state police and District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel participated. The security forces stormed the areas based on the intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists.
According to officials, 26 bodies of Maoists were recovered in the Bijapur district while four from Kanker. A police jawan was also killed in action during the Bijapur encounter.
A gunfight broke out at around 7 am in a forest along the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts when a joint team of security personnel was out on an operation against the rebels in Gangaloor police station area in Bijapur district.
Another encounter took place during the same time in a forest along the border of Kanker and Narayanpur districts. The DRG and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel entered into a fierce gun battle with the rebels that resulted in the killing of four Maoists. The security personnel have recovered the bodies.
The officials said automatic weapons were also recovered from the spot during the search operation launched after the encounter.
With the latest action, 105 Naxalites have been gunned down in separate encounters in the state so far this year. Of them, 89 were eliminated in the Bastar division comprising seven districts, including Bijapur and Kanker.

Our fight against Naxalism in the state continues strongly,” Sai said in a social media post. The martyrdom of the jawan will not go in vain, he added.
Strengthening the resolve of the successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to end Maoism in the country and state by March 2026, the security forces are continuously achieving success and moving rapidly towards the goal. He said the success achieved by the jawans was commendable and he saluted their courage and indomitable courage.
