Srinagar, June 23
Security forces eliminated four foreign terrorists and foiled an infiltration bid in North Kashmir’s Kupwara on Friday.
The foreign militants were crossing the Line-of-Control (LoC) when they landed under the scanner of security forces. The development comes in the backdrop of heavy security bandobast made in the valley in wake of two-day visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In a tweet, Kashmir Zone Police said: “In a joint operation, Army and Police have killed four terrorists in Kala Jungle of Machhal sector in Kupwara who were trying to infiltrate to our side from POJK”. Five foreign terrorists were killed on June 16 in the Jumagund area near the LoC in Kupwara.
High security measures have been put in place here ahead of the two-day visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir beginning Friday, the Kashmir Zone police officials said. Shah is scheduled to address a public rally in the Bhagwati Nagar area of Jammu and pay homage to founder of Jan Sangh Syama Prasad Mukherjee on ‘Bhaldan Divas’ at BJP office in Trikutanagar
He is also likely to visit Shri Tirupati Balaji temple in the Mujeen area on the outskirts of the city. Later in the day, Shah will fly to Kashmir where he is scheduled to attend a number of programmes on Friday and Saturday.
