Security forces killed four terrorists in an encounter in Sidhra area of Jammu on Wednesday morning.
The militants were heading towards Kashmir probably to execute the design of conducting violence in the valley during the Independence Day. Speaking to media, Additional Director General of Police (Jammu Zone) Mukesh Singh said that the encounter broke out at 7 am when the Quick Response Team (QRT) of Jammu and Kashmir Police stopped a truck at Sidhra naka.
“In view of Republic Day, we had alerted the border security grid and today morning, the highway QRT spotted an unusual movement of a truck (on the highway) since usually the truck movement happens after 12 noon, ” he said.
The truck driver escaped with an excuse of natural call soon after the vehicle was intercepted. It raised suspicious and security personnel decided to thoroughly check the vehicle. “As the process started, the terrorists who were hiding inside the truck opened fire resulting in a gun battle,” he added.
“Four terrorists have been killed in an encounter in Sidhra area in Jammu. 07 AK-47 rifles, one M4 rifle, 03 Pistols along with other ammunition were recovered. Truck owner is yet to be identified; truck was going from Jammu to Srinagar. Search still on,” Singh later wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, a massive search operation has been launched in the area by the Army, CRPF and JKP to trace the driver even as nearby police stations. Though police officials did not confirm, it was learnt that the terrorists were being transported in the truck to their hideout in Kashmir.
