Security forces gun down nine Maoists in Chhattisgarh

In yet another breakthrough in the ongoing operations against the Left-wing Extremists in Chhattisgarh, security forces on Tuesday gunned down nine Maoists in an encounter in Dantewada district.

The bodies of nine Maoists in uniform have been discovered from the spot. Besides Maoists material, a huge quantity of arms and ammunition that included SLR, .303 Rifle, 315 Bore Rifle were recovered from the spot.

The officials said the figure could go up as search operations in the area was still going on. The breakthrough came in the operation that was launched after getting intelligence inputs.

The police have received a tip off that Maoists from West Bastar Division has gathered on the border area of Dantewada and Bijapur. Acting on the information, a joint party of both the districts along with District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) struck in the area Tuesday morning.

A fierce encounter took place between the security forces and Maoists at 10:30 am. The officials said the rebels retreated from the spot after security personnel overpowered in the gunbattle.
