Security forces gun down woman Maoist in Chhattisgarh

A woman Maoist activist was killed in an encounter with the security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Monday morning.

The activist could not be identified. She was in Maoist uniform and was armed with a .303 rifle, which security forces had recovered with the body.

Bastar Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P had confirmed the incident. On Monday morning a joint operation was launched by the troopers of District Reserve Guard (DRG) Kanker and 132nd battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) troops in Amatola, Binagunda, Kalper area (Across Kotri river, PS Chottebetiya, District Kanker).

At around 7 am, there was an exchange of fire between the security personnel and Maoists near Binagunda jungle area. The jawans gave a befitting reply and forced the Maoists to retreat in the adjoining forests.

In the search operation that followed, security personnel recovered the body of a woman Maoist, rifle and other items. No casualty was reported from the side of security forces.

The Maoists had unleashed a realm of terror in the area where the encounter took place. Five days ago, the rebels had burnt vehicles engaged in the infrastructure development project.
