Security forces kill two Maoists in Chhattisgarh

Two Maoists were killed in a joint operation conducted by the security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Tuesday morning.

Based on the tips off from the intelligence agencies, jawans from the 223 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with District Reserve Guard (DRG) and District Police Force launched an operation in the forests of Tadmetla-Duled under Chintagufa police station on Tuesday morning. The forces had input about the presence of a dozen Maoists affiliated to the Jagargunda Area Committee.

According to police officials, the rebels ambushed the party at around 6 am in the Tadmetla-Duled forests. The jawans immediately took position and retaliated in self-defense. After a brief encounter, the rebels fled into the forests.

During the search operation that followed, security personnel discovered the bodies of two male Maoists. They were identified as militia cadre Sodhi Deva, son of Joga, resident of Tadmetla and Rava Deva, son of Bundi, resident Tadmetla. They were working for the Jagargunda Area Committee.

They were carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads. Officials said they were involved in the murder of Shiksha Doot Kawasaki Sukka and present Deputy Sarpanch of Tadmetla Madvi Ganga in June this year. They were also named in the killing of Korsa Kosa near Minpa, who was brutally executed to death on the suspicion of a police informer.

Besides a 12 bore double barrel rifle, one pistol was recovered from the spot. The security forces have launched a massive search operation in the area.
