Security forces neutralise five Naxals including top commander Sudhakar in Chhattisgarh

In a major breakthrough in the operations against the Left-Wing extremism in Chhattisgarh, security forces today morning gunned down five Maoists including top commander in two separate encounters in the Bastar police range.

According to police officials, the Telangana State Committee received the intelligence inputs about the presence of 40-50 armed Maoists including Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) and top commander Muchaki Ungal alias Raghu alias Sudhakar in the hilly area under the police stations Perur, Elmidi and Usur in the border area of straddling between Telangana and Jharkhand on Monday. The elite anti-insurgency force of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh police, the Greyhounds along with the DRG and CRPF were despatched from Bijapur.

During the operation, the security forces established contact with the Maoists on Tuesday at 7 am in the border village of Semaldodi of Elmidi police station under Bijapur district and Penugolu villahe of Perur police station in Telangana.

During the search conducted after the operation, security forces discovered four bodies. One is claimed to be of hardcore Sudhakar; however, the police are in process of identifying the bodies. One Light Machine Gun (LMG) and Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) were recovered from the spot.

A Greyhounds commando was injured in the action and had been airlifted to Warangal for better medical care.

In another encounter that took place in the hills of Marjum under Katekalyan police station in the area coming in Dantewada and Sukma districts, a woman Maoist cadre was killed during exchange of fire on Tuesday morning. The Maoist has been identified as Munni, member of local area committee of the outlawed organisation.
