Security forces on Tuesday stormed a Maoists camp in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bijapur district claiming casualty on the part of rebels.

The Joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) of Chhattisgarh police and jawans from the 210 battalion of CRPF’s elite CoBRA planned the operation after getting vital inputs about the camp. The security forces had inputs that 40-50 armed Maoists including top leaders Company No. 02 Commander Vella Modiyam, Division Military Incharge Rahul Telam, Gangalur AC Secretary Dinesh Modiyam, DVCM Bhaskar, ACM Varghese were present in the camp located in the forested pocket of interior Isulanar village.

When the jawans struck, the rebels retaliated and retreated from the spot after a brief encounter. Sources said by giving cover, they managed to evacuate their top leaders from the spot.

However, security forces claimed that three to four Maoists were either killed or seriously injured in the gunbattle. The assertion was based in the evidence collected by the jawans during the search operation in the area.

The officials claimed that the camp was completely destroyed. The security forces recovered tiffin bomb, Kardex wire, fuse wire, detonator, gelatin besides Maoists literature from the spot.
