Senior students in classrooms as teachers skip for caste census in Bihar

As the second phase of caste census to study socio-economic status of  citizens started on April 15, the education department has directed the district education officers in all districts to engage students of senior classes as temporary teachers in the schools.

School teachers have been engaged in caste census across the state. About 13,000 school teachers are engaged as enumerators, 2200 as supervisors for caste census. They have been given liberty to get themselves marked present in the school register and go to the field for caste census works.

The circular issued by the education department says teachers would get between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 for their engagement in caste census.

Senior students of class 9 to 11 have been asked to engage the classes held by the respective teachers.Also,the senior students will ensure smooth working of the mid-day meal scheme and facilitate regular food to the students upto 8th class.Senior students have been directed to monitor the functioning of the PM nutrition scheme also.

District Magistrate of Patna,Chandra Shekhar Singh said against the population of 73 lakhs in Patna district,17 lakh families have been covered in the first phase of census and in the second phase,details of all individual members,whether staying in Bihar,outside the state or even abroad would be collected and put on the web site of General administration department.

Chief MInister,Nitish Kumar on April 15 had gone to his native village at Bakhtiarpur,40 kms from here and participated in the caste census with his elder brother and son.
