Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the participation of social organizations along with government employees is necessary to stop human trafficking.
Many criminal elements are involved in this organized crime. Apart from apprehending such elements, an effective campaign must be conducted to make citizens aware and alert in this direction. A forceful campaign should be carried out to ensure proper protection of women from molestation and other serious incidents, to save children from drug abuse and to stop bonded labor and malpractices.
The Chief Minister was holding a discussion with senior officials of the departments concerned including the Home Department in a meeting held at the residence office today. The meeting was convened to discuss the issue of Human Trafficking Prevention Awareness Week.
The decision taken in the meeting to start a public awareness campaign regarding the prohibition of human trafficking will be conducted on a large scale across the state in the coming month. Campaign dates will be fixed soon.
Home, Jail and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Director General of Police Sudhir Kumar Saxena and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that any campaign becomes successful with the cooperation of voluntary organizations and public representatives. Therefore, the nature of public awareness campaign against human trafficking should be decided along with the determination of the role of public representatives. The public awareness campaign for the prohibition of human trafficking will have significance only when the common people are also connected with it. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that various legal provisions have been made in favor of children and women. Despite this, incidents of abduction and molestation of women take place. Apart from this, the physical, economic exploitation of young children, forcing them to become drug addicts, pushing them into beggary and bonded labour remains a matter of concern not only for India but for the world.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that good work has been done to assist children and women with public cooperation by arranging shelters in Indore. Organizations are working for the safety and honour of women at other places in the state as well. During the awareness campaign, work should be done to bring the experiences of the people working in this field to the general public. There are also many examples of making women self-reliant through rehabilitation. Social workers working in this field should also be encouraged.
It was informed in the meeting that World Anti-Human Trafficking Day is celebrated on 30 July every year all over the globe. Continuous work is being done to end the practice of human trafficking. The Home Department of Madhya Pradesh has prepared a preliminary outline for the operation of Public Awareness Week of Human Trafficking Prohibition in the month of August. Under this, through short film production, poster making, wall writing, organizing seminars and social media, the general public will be made aware about controlling child labor, bonded labor malpractices and crimes against women. Special cooperation will be provided in the campaign by the Department of Women and Child Development and Department of Public Relations.
