Former Leader of Opposition and senior Congress Leader Ajay Singh had taken a jibe on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for allegedly failing to convert Singrauli into “Singapore”.
Endowed with rich mineral resources, the new district of Singrauli is fast emerging as the energy capital of India. NTPC Limited has three power plants with combined generation capacity of 9760 MW while Coal India Limited through its subsidiary Northern Coalfields Limited produces 80 million tonne coal per annum. Reliance, Essar and DB Power also have major power facilities in the district.
“Thirteen years ago, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that Singrauli would be carved as Singapore,” Ajay Singh said. People of the region are desperately waiting for it, he added. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister now talks about preparing a five-year-plan for the development of the district, he added.
Singh pointed out mismanagement in expediting the development plan in the district that had been generating maximum revenue from the minerals in the state. “The NCL had spent Rs 500 crore from its CSR head in the last seven years for the welfare scheme of the state government,” he said, adding that the Madhya Pradesh government had set up a trauma centre that too without basic equipment and facilities.
Urging the Chief Minister to improve the medical infrastructure in the district, Ajay Singh said let Singrauli remain in its original form instead of Singapore look.
