Chandigarh, February 9

Even as electioneering is at peak, Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu has left the state for a visit to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.

Punjab is going to the polls on February 20 and the election campaign is in full swing in the state where Congress is desperately looking to retain power. This is Sidhu’s second visit to the Shrine within a week.

The officials said Sidhu would stay for the night at the shrine to participate in the morning prayers before returning to his state on Thursday. At the crucial point, the PCC President has been out of the state for two days.

Sidhu is also contesting against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia from Amritsar East that is considered to be the most crucial seat, facing tough competition.

Political pundits however linked Sidhu’s sudden disappearance with the announcement of Chief Minister’s face. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on three days ago projected Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as party’s face for Punjab polls.

Sidhu’s wife Nayjot Kaur has yesterday lashed out at Rahul Gandhi stating that Channi is not the right choice.
