Prof Uma Devi is shocked over Bihar government order to release Anand Mohan Singh, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the brutal killing of her husband and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer G Krishnaiah, the district magistrate of Gopalganj in 1994.
Uma Devi recently retired as professor of Chemistry in a college at Mehboobnagar. Talking to this correspondent over phone, she said, “We are shocked. Anand Mohan Singh should have been in jail till his death.” She said she appealed to Nitish Kumar to engage good people in politics and he could win the elections without taking help of criminals.
“There is no need to patronise criminals to form the government,” she added. Uma Devi said 1985 batch IAS officers have approached her and sought her authority to challenge the former MP’s release in Supreme Court. Krishnaiah was 1985 batch IAS officer.
Padma, daughter of the slain DM, who was just four years old when her father was lynched, too requested Nitish Kumar to reconsider decision stating it was “bahut galat (absolutely wrong)”.
The IAS Association expressed its deep dismay at the decision of the Government of Bihar to release the convicts of the brutal killing of G Krishnaiah, IAS, by a change in classification rules of prisoners.
Association requested the Chief Minister to reconsider his decision that demoralised the public servants.
