SMS of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant surpasses production of 100 MT crude Steel

The Steel Melting Shops of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) surpassed the historic milestone of production of 100 Million Ton (MT) Crude Steel on Wednesday.

It is worth mentioning here that the journey of steel making in RSP had commenced in January 1959, with commissioning of the Steel Melting Shop-I, which was further strengthened with Steel Melting Shop- II commencing production in 1996.

Notably, the last 50 MT Crude Steel production was achieved in only 19 years.  Moreover, the last 10 million tons of Crude Steel was produced in a matter of 3 years 2 months, while the last one year witnessed production more than 4 Million Tonnes of Crude Steel.

Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP visited Steel Melting Shop-I department on Wednesday along with S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), P K Satapathy, ED (P&A) and A K Behuria, CGM In-charge (F&A) to congratulate the collective for the remarkable achievement.

Senior officers and employees of both the Steel Melting Shops as well as a large number of CGMs, HODs and representatives of Trade Unions and Executive Association were present on the occasion.

A park namely “Umeed-Vertical Garden and Lily Pond” was inaugurated by Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP and “Asthaa- Lily and Fish Pond” was inaugurated by S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works) to mark the occasion. A ceremonial cake was cut to commemorate the occasion. Thereafter, a helium inflated balloon with the greetings message of 100 MT Crude Steel production was also floated from the Steel Melting Shop-1, CGM Office Building.

Congratulating the entire team for this achievement, Bhowmick said, “The milestone has been crossed with the efforts put in by the employees of SMS-I & II as well as all the associated units.” S R Suryawanshi, P K Satapathy and A K Behuria also congratulated the collective on the commendable achievement.

The employees under the leadership of Ramakrushna Patra, CGM (SMS-I) and T P Sivasankar, CGM (SMS-II) conveyed their commitment to fulfill the expectations of the management from Steel Melting Shops.
