Sridhar Nadimatla will be new CMD of NMDC

The 1997-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Sridhar Nadimatla will be the new Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).

The Public Enterprises Selection Committee (PESC) has recommended his name after the meeting held on Saturday. There were seven candidates in the fray to head the country’s largest iron ore producer and exporter.

The selection was necessitated following the retirement of Sumit Deb on February 28. The Function Director (Finance) of the NMDC Amitava Mukherjee was given the additional charge of CMD.

Sridhar Nadimatla, the IAS officer of Telangana cadre, hails from the same state. He carries a vast experience in the mining sector besides being a good civil administrator. 

He took over as Chairman and Managing Director, Singareni Collieries Co. Ltd, Government of Telangana State in 2015. SCCL is a government-owned-coal mining corporation in India. It is under the ownership of the Department of Energy, Government of Telangana. The Union Government’s administration of the company is through the 49 per cent ownership held by the Ministry of Coal.

Under Sridhar Nadimatla, SCCL performance has remained outstanding with the company trudging down the path marked for growth. Many innovations in SCCL, which is currently operating 45 mines where 20 opencast and 25 underground mines in 6 districts of Telangana (erstwhile 4 districts of AP), have taken place under his leadership. 

The company is involved in coal extraction in Telangana, in the Pranhita-Godavari Valley region, which has significant coal reserves, estimated at 8.79 billion tonnes. Ramagundam is one of the most important divisions of the Singareni Collieries Company.

Singareni Collieries has established a thermal power plant of 1,200 MW (2 X 600 MW) in the town of Jaipur in the Srirampur region in Mancherial district. There is a proposal to establish one more 800 MW unit at the Jaipur power plant. SCCL has planned for a 300 MW Solar Power Plant for its captive use in its coal mining areas.

Before joining SCCL, Sridhar Nadimatla held various positions in the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States including Sub Collector, Rajahmundry Project Officer of Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Utnoor, Adilabad District. Director of Ports, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. He worked as Collector and District Magistrate in Ananthapur, Krishna, Warangal and RangaReddy Districts.

He also worked as Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, Government of Andhra Pradesh for 3 years and 3 months.
