Steady surge in COVID cases: Nearly 7000 new cases logged

Amidst World Health Organization (WHO) warning that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is spreading at an unprecedented rate, the cases in India is registering a steady rise. 

According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 6984 new cases have been reported in India on Wednesday that is up by 20.7 per cent compared to Tuesday. India’s Active caseload currently stands at 87,562. Active cases account for less than 1 per cent of total cases, currently at 0.25 per cent; Lowest since March 2020

Recovery rate is currently at 98.38 per cent; Highest since March 2020. As many as 8,168 recoveries have been reported in the last 24 hours increases taking the total recoveries to 3,41,46,931. In all, 134.61 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.

India has reported 57 cases of Omicron cases, the new variant of COVID-19 first detected in South Africa that has a large number of mutations and has set alarm bells ringing since its discovery. 

Two days ago, United Kingdom (UK) reported the first death died due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
