Raipur, May 2
Steel Secretary Sanjay Singh landed in the Chhattisgarh capital today morning to review various projects related to the steel ministry.
Special Secretary with Chhattisgarh’s Industry department Anurag Pandey (IAS) received the steel secretary, an IAS officer of 1987 batch from parent Madhya Pradesh cadre on behalf of the state government. He has been accorded the status of state guest.
Chairman-cum-Managing Director of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Sumit Deb, Director (in-charge) of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) Anirban Dasgupta along with other top executives welcomed the steel secretary at the airport.
During his visit, Singh will be meeting Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain and representatives of the industrial association.
The steel secretary is likely to review the process of NMDC’s Nagarnar steel plant. The commissioning of a 3 million tonne per annum (mtpa) steel plant in Chhattisgarh has begun and commercial production is expected soon.
Besides, Singh will also evaluate the development related to the Rowghat iron ore project of SAIL-BSP. Given the depleting deposit in the captive mines, SAIL-BSP desperately needs to expedite the work in the Rowghat project.
The steel secretary is scheduled to interact with captains of Chhattisgarh steel industry and explore the opportunities and challenges for the secondary steel sector as per the National Steel Policy to produce 300 MTPA steel by 2030.
