Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the flagship arm of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), took another step towards self-reliance by restarting Nut Coke Complex at Sinter Plant-3.
The nut coke supplied by Sinter Plant-3 will be used in Blast Furnaces, increasing the net availability of coke at Blast Furnaces and will reduce the dependence of Blast Furnace on metallurgical coke. Nut coke is used as a direct substitute of metallurgical coke and its use in Blast Furnace has a favorable impact on techno-economics, resulting in considerable cost saving for BSP.
“Drawing strength and inspiration from continuous guidance and support from Anirban Dasgupta, Director I/c BSP and Anjani Kumar, ED (Works), the collective of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Sinter Plant 3 (SP-III) took another step towards self-reliance by restarting Nut Coke Complex at SP 3,” the company said in a statement.
SP-3 collective under the able guidance of S V Nandanwar, CGM (SP-3) took up this challenging project of restarting this nut coke complex in a short span of one week. Disc Feeders in Nut Coke Area were made operational by installing the motors and re-visioning the Gear Boxes. Repair of Nut Coke to S114 Conveyor Chute was completed.
