Raipur, June 28
In a major political development, Congress on Wednesday appointed T S Singh Deo as the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
The decision came after a day-long marathon meeting held in the National capital. The Congress leaders discussed the party’s strategy and poll preparedness in Chhattisgarh where assembly elections are due later in the year.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, besides the party’s in-charge for the state Kumari Selja and general secretary, organisation, K C Venugopal were among the leaders who attended the meeting at the party headquarters here.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel congratulated and extended best wishes to Singh Deo for the new responsibility. “We are ready,” Baghel said in the tweet with photographs of both the leaders.
Singh Deo, who holds Panchayat department in the Bhupesh Baghel cabinet, has been considered as dissident though he never aired his resentment following strict party discipline. The pain that he carries is Congress high command’s reported assurance in 2018 related to the half-term Chief Ministership with Baghel when the party came to power in November 2018.
The titular Maharaja of Sarguja now had to satisfy with the position of Deputy.
