The solar plant would cater to the captive power requirement of MCL, which had successfully set-up a 2 MW solar power plant in Sambalpur in 2014. 

During the current financial year, MCL has supplied over 95.7 million tonnes of dry fuel to consumers, registering a growth of about 21 per cent over last year.

The Minister held discussions with MCL and Railway officials at the railway sidings.

The coal miner would be spending Rs 1.38 crore from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to execute the project.
