Mumbai, February 20
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today landed in Mumbai to meet the political stalwarts of the commercial capital of the county to cobble up a grand opposition against the BJP ahead of 2024 general elections.
Rao, who has been critical of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a number of issues, had earlier said that he would hold meetings with his Maharashtra and West Bengal counterparts as part of efforts to unite various political parties against the BJP and the NDA government. The Mumbai streets were packed with posters welcoming KCR to the city.
Besides Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, he met the Nationalist Congress party (NCP) chief, Sharad Pawar and called for “a big change”. Rao, who is president of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), met with Thackeray at the latter’s official residence ‘Varsha’ over lunch.
Thackeray, who is also president of the Shiv Sena, recently spoke to Rao over phone and invited him to Mumbai. Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ on Sunday said the meeting would expedite the process of political unity at the national level against the BJP. This comes days after KCR gave a call to Opposition parties to unite against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Shiv Sena MP and party’s chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut also attended the meeting.
