Telangana police trap Maoist aide in Mulugu

The Mulugu police apprehended a close aide of outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) in the forests of Pamunuru while planting powerful landmines to target the security personnel.

His accomplice however managed to flee. The police party recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and other explosive material from his possession. He was brought to Venkatapuram police station immediately at 4 pm due to security risk in Pamunuru forest area. 

On interrogation, he revealed his identity as Madavi Boodu (40), a resident of Jella village of Venkatapuram Mandal. Boodu along with militia members of surrounding villagers that included Tadapala, Chelimela, Jella and Pamunuru villages of Venkatapuram Mandal and Pedda utlapally, Chinna Utllapally, Rampuram, Beemaram, Kasthuripadu and pujarikanker villages of Chhattisgarh state have been working as Militia member for the CPI (Maoist) party since last few years and he had participated in several unlawful and sabotage activities during this time.

The breakthrough came during a search operation launched by the security personnel in the forests while acting on a tip off that as per the directions of banned CPI (Maoists) leaders Yapa Narayana @ Haribhushan, Bade Chokka Rao @ Damodar and other senior leaders of Telangana State committee of CPI (Maoist) party, the militia members of Tadapala, Chelimela, Jella and Pamunuru villages were  going to assemble in Pamunuru forest area in order to plant land mines for killing police party who generally go for combing operation there.

CI-Venkatapuram along with RI (Operations), Mulugu, SI-Venkatapuram, Special party team Mulugu, Bomb Disposal (BD) team, personnel from CRPF 39/B Bn and other police personnel proceeded towards Pamunuru forest area. While they were conducting a combing operation on Sunday morning, they spotted some members armed with firearms and deadly weapons planting explosives with intention to kill the police party. Meanwhile, on seeing the police party, they tried to escape.

While others managed to flee, Boodu fell into the police net. The officials said he was involved in several cases of Venkatapuram under UAPA Act. He assisted Naxals in their activities by providing food and shelter and informing them about police party movement in the area. He was given training by the Naxals on how to handle and plant landmines and spikes in order to kill police party. Thereafter, Naxals regularly provided him with explosive material and accordingly he planted landmines in several areas near their villages in order to target police personnel and to deter their movement in the area. 

One of the IEDs planted by them at Palem Vagu project got blasted recently due to heavy rainfall and thunder. After this, the main leaders in the CPI (Maoist party) handed over some IEDs and explosives materials to plant it in Pamunuru forest area on the track towards Palem Vagu project in order to target the police doing combing operation there.  The apprehended militia member is involved in almost 28 Extremism related cases registered under stringent sections of UAPA Act, 1967 in PS Venkatapuram, Cherla and Wazeedu.  He is involved in several extremist murder cases including the murder of Maduri Bheemeshwara Rao @ Bheesu in Alubaka in Oct-2020 and planting of more than 12 IEDs, landmines and spikes in the Karreguttalu area over past several years.

Due to active police movement in the area, this time they have been successful in recovering 4 landmines/IEDs (two pressure Cooker mine and two tiffin box mine) along with other landmines accessories that included 40 meters cordex wire, four detonators, one Walky-Talky (Manpack) and two bundles of electric wires and other items.
