Telecom officer arrested in Chhattisgarh liquor scam

A senior official of Indian Telecommunication Service presently posted with the Chhattisgarh government on deputation was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged Chhattisgarh liquor scam.

Arunpati Tripati, the telecom official posted as special secretary in state’s excise department, was trying to flee the country when ED official apprehended him at Mumbai airport on Friday morning. He was also Head of Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation Limited (CSMCL) that had been involved in the liquor trade in the state.

The ED officials, who pegged the Chhattisgarh liquor scam to the tune of Rs 2000 crore, said there were concrete evidences against Tripathi. The agency recovered a laptop, mobile from him. The official was flown to Raipur and produced in the court of Special Judge Ajay Singh Rajput. He was remanded to custodial remand of ED till Monday.

Earlier, the ED arrested businessman Anwar Dhaber, the brother of Raipur Mayor and Congress leader Ejaz Dhaber in connection with the liquor scam. Based on his revelation, the ED arrested businessmen Trilok Dhillon and Nitesh Purohit. The ED had named an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer as the brain behind the scam.

The central agency today morning raided the residence of another businessman Gurucharan Singh Hora. However, it could not be known what action the ED had taken after the raid.
