Wazirabad, November 3
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan survived an assassination attempt on Day 7 of the party’s ‘Haqeeqi Long March’ while passing through Punjab’s Wazirabad town on Thursday.
Imran sustained a bullet wound to the leg while other party leaders and supporters were also injured in the attack reportedly carried out by a lone gunman. The miracle could happen only because of a man who held attacker’s hand and prevented to fire further.
The shooter was wrestled by another man as he fired, which may have saved Khan’s life. “Hats off to this jawan who jumped in to control the shooter not caring for his life to protect Imran Khan. This nation owes you,” a twitter handler joined the nation to praise the man.
The PTI said in a tweet, “Today’s Biggest Hero! Our Hero who saved Imran Khan’s life by tackling the attacker who was firing!” As soon as the youth held the attacker, he tried to escape and was apprehended by the mob.
The sole suspect caught by police has said that he wanted to kill PTI Chairman Imran Khan because “he was misleading the public.” “I tried my best to kill him. I wanted to kill Imran Khan only and no one else.” “He (Imran) was misleading the people and I could not bear watching it so I killed him … attempted to kill him,” the suspect said in a video statement.”
In a statement, the Punjab police confirmed that seven people were injured and a person was killed during the attack on PTI chairman Imran Khan’s container during the long march in Wazirabad.
The deceased has been identified as Muazzam Nawaz.
