Team News Riveting
Kolkata, May 4
The West Bengal police had finally reacted even as the state had been in flame; to deny incident of women molestation without even investigation.
For the last three days, the BJP workers and their supporters had been attacked. The shops were looted and the personnel of Bengal police just watched as a mute spectators. Even videos showed police failing to stop the mobs running out of shops with booty that they looted.
The senior police officials did not react since the political violence reported perpetrated by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) erupted across the state post election results. When a leading magazine reported gang rape incident and molestation of BJP women booth agents and workers, the West Bengal police all of a sudden woke up to come with a clarification.
In the official post, the West Bengal police termed the incident as “fake” in an official tweet. The state police could not be contacted for its version on why it reacted on a particular incident and remained mum on others as BJP leaders claimed nine of its workers were brutally killed by the TMC supporters.
The West Bengal police had come under sharp criticism from the twitter handlers. “This is the only post West Bengal police have done in four days. And no explanation, no testimonies, nothing. Just a fatwa that it is fake. As shameless as it can get,” said one. “Been SIX hours since @WBPolice tweeted that this was ‘fake news’, however, they haven’t yet given a shred of evidence to support it. This is not how an official handle is supposed to behave. #BengalBurning #BengalViolence,” another said.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Centre to deploy central protection forces, including armed forces, for the restoration of law and order in West Bengal.
Bombs were been hurled at the home of scientist and BJP’s Purbasthali Uttar candidate Dr Gobardhan Das’s home in West Bengal by alleged TMC workers. The mobs had also attacked various party workers in his village.
Author and scientist Dr Anand Ranganathan made a SOS call to Home Minister Amit Shah, imploring him to ensure Das’s safety. He said that Das is trapped inside his hope along with his family members including the elderly as TMC hordes hurl bombs.
Dr Ranganathan has informed that the Home Minister’s office has assured him that CRPF forces are reaching Das’ village and are in contact with him.
Gobardhan Das, a renowned molecular scientist, works at the Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU’s) Special Centre for Molecular Medicine. He was fielded by the BJP to contest from the Purbasthali Uttar seat in Bengal’s Purba Burdwan district.
