Three CRPF personnel martyred in Maoists ambush

Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel including two Assistant Sub Inspectors (SIs) were killed when Maoists ambush a patrol of the para-military force in Nuapada district on the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border Tuesday afternoon.

A troop from the 19 battalion of the CRPF stationed in Nuapada today afternoon left for a road opening operation and provide security cover to workers engaged in an infrastructure project. When the jawans reached Bhainsadani village under Boden police station, rebels ambushed the party and opened discriminate fire.

The jawans immediately took the position and retaliated. After a short exchange of fire, the rebels retreated and skipped into the dense forest. The area on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border where the encounter took place is located in an inaccessible terrain.

The three martyrs have been identified as Assistant Sub Inspectors Shishu Pal (Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh) and Shiv Lal (Manendragarh, Chhattisgarh) and Constable Dharmendra Singh (Rohtas). Sources said the three were hit in the first burst of fire and died on the spot.
