NTPC Ltd., India’s largest integrated power utility, commenced its flagship event, the Indian Power Stations O&M Conference (IPS 2026), at Raipur in Chhattisgarh on Friday.

The three-day conference, commemorating the synchronisation of the first unit of NTPC Singrauli, brought together power professionals to deliberate on the theme of “Optimising Thermal Generation with Quality & Reliability”.

Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), Government of India, observed that this is an important and transformative period for the power sector, with rapid changes reshaping the industry. He emphasised that for India to evolve as a strong manufacturing economy, it is essential to provide reliable power to industries at a highly competitive prices. While noting that thermal power will continue to remain relevant, he stressed that utilities of the future must invest in renewable energy, energy storage, and nuclear power.

In his welcome address, Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC Limited, said that 13th February marked the beginning of NTPC’s journey with the commissioning of its first unit at Singrauli in 1982. He noted that the plant continues to operate at 100 per cent PLF even today and is expected to remain serviceable for two more decades, reflecting NTPC’s robust O&M practices.

Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority (CEA) also addressed virtually.

Among others, Piyush Singh, Additional Secretary (Thermal), MoP; Dr Rohit Yadav, Chairman & Secretary, Energy Department, Govt of Chhattisgarh; Praveen Gupta, Member (Thermal), CEA; Ramesh Babu V, Member, CERC; Board of Directors of NTPC; and senior officials from MoP, CEA, CERC, NTPC, GENCOs and other organisation were present.

On this occasion, NTPC Vindhyachal bagged Business Excellence Awards 2025-26 and NTPC Swarn Shakti Awards 2024-25 (Overall Champion Award).

Another key attraction of IPS 2026 is the Techno Galaxy Exhibition, showcasing cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence, digitalisation, and innovative solutions from a wide range of vendors and manufacturers.
