Jagdalpur, March 25
Security forces gunned down three Maoists in a fierce encounter that broke out in Chhattisgarh Bijapur district on Tuesday.
According to officials, the security personnel engaged the rebels in a gun battle during an anti-Maoist operation launched on the border areas of Dantewada and Bijapur districts. During the operation, continuous firing has been going on between Maoists and security forces since 8 am, the officials said.
Three Maoists were killed in the encounter. The officials said bodies of three Maoists have been recovered along with a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the encounter site.
The encounter and search operation are going on in the area. The officials said they would share further details once the encounter was over.
Last week, the security forces gunned down at least 30 rebels of the banned CPI (Maoists) in two separate encounters in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region. On March 20, two separate encounters took place between the security forces and the rebels in Bijapur and Kanker districts. While 26 Maoists were eliminated in Bijapur, four were gunned down in Kanker.
