Three militants believed to be eliminated in Kashmir

Three terrorists are believed to be killed as security forces on Wednesday evening launched anti—militancy operations at two places in Kupwara in North Kashmir.

Based on intelligence inputs related to likely infiltration bids, a Joint Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday in general area Machhal, Kupwara.

Officials said troops from the 57 Rashtriya Rifles and 53 Infantry Brigade launched the operation. “At around 7.40 pm, movement of the infiltrating terrorists was detected that led to the quick establishment of contact, ensuring a firefight, the officials added.

In the ensuing operation, two terrorists are believed to be killed, while bodies are yet to be retrieved. Operation is in progress, they said.

Similarly, in another operation at Tangdhar, one terrorist is likely to have been gunned down, as searches continues in the area.
