It would be “Rudra” for male and “Meghna” for female.
Names of tiger and tigress have been finalised by the Tata Steel Zoological Park following an overwhelming participation from the citizens of Steel City. TSZP had asked Jamshedpur residents to name the newly arrived couple from Nagpur Zoo on March 21, 2025.
Citizens of city, shown great interest in it and submitted their preferred names through SMS & WhatsApp. Total 318 people suggested 318 different names for both the tiger and tigress by March 24, last day to participate.
Thereafter, the zoo had formed a committee to select best names both for male & female tigers considering the frequency of suggestion and relevance & significance of the names for the animals itself. Committee finally shortlisted the names which were suggested by one of the participant, Sahil Sharma, who emerged as a Winner of the contest.
Interestingly, name “Rudra” for the tiger was also suggested by 10 other participants as well. Sahil Sharma will get an opportunity to have a close photo with these tigers. He and other 10 participants will get an invitation to attend the inaugural event of the new tiger enclosure on Monday, April 21.
The afternoon event will witness Chief Guest as Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services Tata Steel & President of Tata Steel Zoological Society at 4:00 PM. All shortlisted participant will be conferred with mementos from the zoo in acknowledgment and honour of their enthusiastic participation in the noble activity.
