Jamshedpur, December 30
It is a moment of immense joy and pride to share that Meghna, the tigress at Tata Steel Zoological Park, Jamshedpur, has given birth to two healthy cubs.
Meghna was named by the zoo lovers of Jamshedpur through a public naming contest organised by the zoo.
The birth took place during daytime on November27, 2025. However, in adherence to established zoo protocols and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both the mother and the cubs, the birth was not announced immediately. We are pleased to inform that both cubs are now stable and doing well, under continuous monitoring by the zoo’s veterinary and animal care teams.
The father of the cubs is Rudra, whose name was also selected by the public during the same naming contest. Both Meghna and Rudra were brought to Tata Steel Zoological Park from the Rescue Centre, Gorewada, Nagpur, and are of wild origin.
Continuing the tradition of community participation, the zoo will soon launch another naming contest for the citizens of Jamshedpur to name these newest members of the tiger family. Winners will be duly awarded and acknowledged.
The entire zoo family is delighted by this significant event, especially as no tiger births have taken place at the zoo for a long period of time. These births mark an important milestone for the zoo and reinforce its commitment to wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
