Raipur, May 14
Amidst the sound of gunfire and frequent power cuts, Sonali Bala prepared for the board examination and secured the top spot as the examination results were announced today.
A resident of Gondahur in Kanker district, considered to be the heartland of Maoists, Sonali secured first rank jointly with Suman Patel of Raigarh in 10th board examination conducted by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education. The results were announced today. In all, 74.23 per cent of students passed the examination.
The feat of Sonali is notable as she studied under difficult conditions. Living under the shadow of terror as her village came under the hardcore Maoists infested area, Sonali had to face manifold challenges. The disrupted power supply during night hours was a major problem.
She attributed the credit to her mother-father and teacher. Sonali said she would take biology and appear for the medical entrance. She aimed to become a doctor and render her services in the remote and rural areas.
The results of 12 board examinations were also announced today. In all, 79.30 per cent students passed the examination paving the way for the college. Ritesh Sahu of Balod district secured first position.
